Sarasota has found itself named again as one of the best best places to retire in the United States after last month landing at the top spot on the U.S. News & World Report's annual list for the second year in a row.

The most recent accolade Sarasota earned comes from WalletHub, which ranked the best places to retire in Florida. Sarasota scored 6.5 points more than its nearest competitor of Fort Myers. Other cities in the top five were Boca Raton, Miami and Orlando.

WalletHub compared 120 Florida cities using 29 metrics to determine an area's quality of life, health and activities available to residents. Those three criteria were given equal weight in determining a final grade.

According to the analysis, Sarasota ranked first or tied for first for most fishing activities per capita, most health care options per capita and reported the lowest average daily COVID-19 cases in the previous week on a per capital basis.

The one metric that wasn't above average compared to other Florida cities was Sarasota's property crime, which ranked 62nd but was squarely in the average for the Sunshine State's cities.

WalletHub ranks Florida as the best state to retire. Part of that ranking is due to cheaper costs, but also the plethora of both indoor and outdoor activities. There's also the fact that Florida does not have a state income tax.
